The GSP Experience
The Governor's Scholars Program is held on three college campuses for five weeks each summer. The campuses for 2009 will be Bellarmine University in Louisville, Centre College in Danville, and Morehead State University in Morehead. Scholars must sign a contract agreeing to stay for the full term of five weeks, including weekends, without interruption and to attend classes daily and to participate in the life of the community.

Governor's Scholars live in college dormitories with separate quarters for men and women. They balance a busy academic schedule in the sciences, mathematics, humanities and the arts with a variety of co-curricular activities and a rich residential life. They choose from approximately 25 subjects, ranging from physical science to cultural anthropology. All subjects are taught in a non-traditional, interdisciplinary mode. There are no grades or college credits given. Noted scientists, writers, thinkers, and business, government and educational leaders visit, speak, and serve as role models. Student productions, publications, experiments and field trips enhance the curriculum.

An exceptional, dedicated faculty, drawn competitively from Kentucky colleges, universities and high schools interact with scholars during weekends and evenings as well as in class by forming a family-type community that creates lasting bonds.
